The Theme of Escape in The Glass Menagerie  The Glass Menagerie, a play by Tennessee Williams, is set in the loft of the Wingfield family, lodging Amanda Wingfield and her two kids Tom and Laura. The dad left numerous years back, and is just spoken to by an image on the parlor divider. The little, grimy loft makes a frantic, repetitive inclination in the peruser. None of the Wingfields wants to remain in the condo, yet their absence of funds makes it difficult to move. Break from this dull and edgy life is the primary subject all through the play. Mystery Hunt 2007

Mystery Hunt 2007 Im finally recovered from the Mystery Hunt heres the official synopsis of how the Hunt went down: The hunt began with teams gathered in Lobby 7. The Evil Midnight Bombers What Bomb at Midnight announced the hunt would contain 270no, 271no 271 1/2 puzzles, all in keeping with the first unpardonable activity of gathering the assembled puzzlers into a massive sudoku grid. The motivational speaker Michael Fauntleroy came in to save the day, offering the teams the opportunity to get the coin and win the hunt in a mere 25no, 15no, 5 puzzles, if theyd only sign a simple contract with some unreadable fine print. After nearly all teams found the coin within a few hours of starting the hunt, they realized that by signing the contract, they had sold their collective souls to Michael Fauntleroy Stopheles (M.F. Stopheles, for short) for a mere penny. To get their souls back, they would have to complete his course of videos on how to be really really evil in various fields, and all the puzzles therein. This would raise their Evilometers to a level where they could rise in power for a showdown with the devil. Along the way, they also had to complete a series of unfortunate events that would show how proficient they were in each of the seven deadly sins. These helped unlock their seven Sin Meters, which each were linked to certain thematic puzzles. Filling their Evilometers to a certain level unlocked a Hell Runaround, which led them on a goose chase through the halls of MIT and down into hell. There they received seven Hell Puzzles, all completely unsolvable without an additional instruction page gained by unlocking the appropriate Sin Meters. Finally, at each stage, the teams received a certificate of their evil achievement. These certificates were used in the final epic battle with the devil, after which the teams regained their souls and triumphed over evil. I played on team Lego My Ego, based out of the Simmons Hall dormitory (you know, the one with 5,538 windows). Simmons looks like it was made from Legos and is referred to as the Space Waffle, and the Mystery Hunt puzzles are quite humbling, hence Lego My Ego. So, at noon in Lobby 7, our team gathered beneath our team sign. As advertised, after we solved the first five Mystery Hunt puzzles, we determined the location of the coin: the Alumni Pool! So, we raced over to the Alumni Pool, only to learn that yes, we had sold our souls to the devil. We were now at the Mephistophelean Institute of Turpitude. We were given a certificate that read: Certificate of Really Really Evil Achievement: We hereby laud and recognize Lego My Ego regarding outstanding efforts in the Evil Discipline of selling ones soul. This opened up a whole new series of puzzles, which kept us working all night. One of the really cool things about Mystery Hunt is how, in some senses, it is a microcosm of MIT: students and professors (and alumni and friends) collaborate to solve problems. Heres some of our teammates collaborating on a puzzle: One of the classic puzzles of any Hunt with Dan Katz 03 is the Duck Konundrum. This Hunts version was D4: Ducks Playing Poker. Heres the description: Duck Poker is a rarely practiced poker variant; it is not popular among humans because the outcome is entirely predetermined however, ducks like it, because they enjoy watching humans helplessly follow directions. And, here are teammates, well, helplessly following directions: Heres the complete set of Duck Konundra: The Duck Konundrum D2: The Mighty Duck Konundrum (during which a wrench was instructed to be thrown at my head) D3: The Fellowship Of The Duck D4: Ducks Playing Poker Heres a nice close-up of Duck Poker: Another puzzle you may enoy looking at is this dance puzzle starring Hunt co-organizer and my former Baker House dormmate Jenn. Its worth watching the Quicktime video for the puzzle and the amusement: In the end, we solved 70 puzzles (according to the solving graph) and solved more meta puzzles than we ever had before. Id say that this was certainly on of the best Hunts ever (if not the best). it was a hunt clearly written for the enjoyment of all of the nearly 40 teams participating, and worked equally well, I think for rookie and veteran Hunters alike. After learning to say hello in Mandarin Chinese, the next step is learning to say good evening and good morning. Before diving in, its important to keep a couple of Chinese phrasings in mind: the character æâ€" © (zÇŽo) means early in  Chinese. It is often used in morning greetings. Both  Ã¦â€" ©Ã¥ ®â€° (zÇŽo Ä n) and  Ã¦â€" ©Ã¤ ¸Å Ã¥ ¥ ½ (zÇŽo shang hÇŽo) mean good morning. Sometimes, just a quick  Ã¦â€" © is a colloquial way of saying good morning. Good Morning in Mandarin Chinese There are actually three ways to say good morning in  Mandarin Chinese. Audio links are indicated with the mark, ââ€" º .   ââ€" ºÃ¢â‚¬â€¹zÇŽo æâ€" ©Ã¢â€" ºÃ¢â‚¬â€¹Ã¢â‚¬â€¹zÇŽo Ä n  Ã¦â€" ©Ã¥ ®â€°zÇŽo shà  ng hÇŽo æâ€" ©Ã¤ ¸Å Ã¥ ¥ ½ The Importance of æâ€" © (ZÇŽo) As noted, æâ€" © (zÇŽo) means â€Å"morning.† It is a noun and can also be used by itself as a greeting meaning good morning. The Chinese character æâ€" © (zÇŽo) is a composite of two character components: æâ€" ¥ (rà ¬) which  means sun and Ã¥  , an old form of ç” ² (jiÇŽ), which means â€Å"first† or â€Å"armor.† A literal interpretation of the character æâ€" © (zÇŽo), therefore, is â€Å"first sun.† The Difference Between æâ€" ©Ã¥ ®â€° and æâ€" ©Ã¤ ¸Å Ã¥ ¥ ½ The first character æâ€" © in this section head is as explained previously. The literal translation of 晚ä ¸Å Ã¥ ¥ ½ (wÇŽn shà  ng hÇŽo) is evening good. Unlike æâ€" ©Ã¥ ®â€° (zÇŽo Ä n), 晚å ®â€°Ã‚  (wÇŽn Ä n) is not usually used as a greeting but rather as a farewell. The phrase means goodnight in the sense of sending people away (in a nice way) or saying the phrase to people before they go to bed.   Appropriate Times These greetings should be said at the appropriate time of the day. Pinyin is most commonly used in Mainland China for teaching school children to read, and it is also widely used in teaching materials designed for Westerners who wish to learn Mandarin. Mandarin Chinese is a tonal language, which means that the meanings of words depend on which tones they use. Using media, such as music, can help make the story relevant towards the reader, and also help guide the author in his or her particular direction. As mentioned earlier, the way outside resources gets used can vary as seen in both Tourà © â€Å"I Shot the Sheriff† and Chris L. Terry â€Å"At Home with Rapper’s Delight†. Although both Tourà © â€Å"I Shot the Sheriff† and Chris L. Terry â€Å"At Home with Rapper’s Delight† use a popular song as a platform to create a captivating short fictional story, they choose different elements of those songs to build it. In â€Å"I Shot the Sheriff† the story uses the lyrics of a song, and in â€Å"At Home with Rapper’s Delight† the story uses the history surrounding the song. The first story, â€Å"I Shot the Sheriff† by Tourà ©, tells a narrative about a man named Bob and the conflict faced between him and Sheriff John Brown. As the conflict continues to increase, Bob ends up killing Sheriff John Brown as self-defense with the gun given to him by his friend Gabriel. Although Bob claims it was self-defense, he was later killed for it. . Elements of Film Making Free Essays

One subject that I find fascinating is cinematography, also known as film making, and the elements used to create an award-winning movie. As an actor, I can confirm that it’s not all about perfect acting; you can produce a bad film with wonderful actors. This idea is also true with the storyline or plot; it needs to be supported by other strong elements, such as camera placement, sound, or lighting. The first element I’d like to talk about is music. We all know the songs in musicals, and frequently download the soundtracks to listen and sing along. Although I am a musician and a big fan of the musicals, the type of music that I’m referring to is a little different, and it often goes unnoticed. While some movies have instrumental theme songs that are easily recognized, all movies have background music used to convey emotion and support the scene. Think of the wordless intro scene of Up (Disney-Pixar, 2009). The music helps set the mood, or it can be used to foreshadow something that is about to happen. Just remember, music doesn’t make a scene hilarious or sad, but it helps it become funnier or sadder. Simply changing a song from a major to a minor key can make an event feel totally different to a viewer. For example, if you were to watch a horror movie and cut out all the music, it would not be nearly as frightening. This happens because the music wouldn’t be causing you to constantly feel suspenseful and fearful. It is amazing to see the difference that a film score can make. The second element that I’d like to emphasize on is camera placement. It may sound a bit ridiculous, but I can assure you that it is very important. When you watch a movie, a lot of times you feel like you are part of the story, watching everything that is happening to the characters. Sometimes, the camera acts as your eyes; what the camera can see is what you see, and it influences your perspective. Other times, the camera bounces back and forth between each of the characters and their views. The camera helps you focus on the action that is happening, and it also can be used to communicate how you should sympathize with the character. It’s hard to make a conversation between two people look professional without using more than one camera. It’s better to use the height differences in where the cameras are placed to show that one person is more dominant than the other. This trick is found often in the Harry Potter movies (Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.). You could use limited views and darkness in order to make an intense scene seem more suspenseful by not allowing the viewer to see what the character is running from.It is stunning how filmmakers can manage to use all of these techniques, as well as never showing the camera and crew. These are only two of the many elements that are needed, but as I said before, all elements need to be strong. When they are all strong, they work off of each other to create the next golden globe winning movie. When I first became interested in film, I started noticing patterns and trends on my own. You can see all of these techniques if you are only looking for them. I love cinematography because there are so many aspects and details to consider; it would be impossible for one person to master and know everything about it. Sometimes I talk to people who are also interested, and they can share their knowledge with me. Most of the time, I rewatch scenes or films to focus on one aspect, and it allows me to see how the filmakers maniplated the aspect. I have read different articles about them to learn more, and played around with creating my own films as well.
